Dec 31, 2019 BREAKING: U.S. to deploy 750 soldiers to Iraq after embassy compound stormed by protesters Approximately 750 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division will deploy immediately to the Middle East in response to unrest at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in a statement. "This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities, such as we witnessed in Baghdad today," Esper said.
