Hey runners, in today’s newsletter, doping news is dominating the headlines.
World marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended over an EPO finding, with the AIU saying the sample predates her Sydney Marathon win in August, putting that title in question. Separately, 2019 Tokyo champion Ruti Aga has been banned for six years after offering a prescription from a clinic the AIU says does not exist.
Elsewhere, Belgians Merijn Geerts and Ivo Steyaert broke the backyard ultra world record together, stopping at the same time. And World Athletics is cutting the LA28 Olympic marathon fields to 70 runners each, which would make the men’s race the smallest since 1976.

Runners at 400 gyms in 20 countries can start logging certified 5K times for RUN X on Oct. 23, chasing a share of a $100,000 prize pool and a world final in Italy next March.
The Belgians ran 124 yards in Retie, close to 517 miles, before both declined to start another loop, and their stop handed the world team title to the U.S. and Mark Dowdle's squad.
Boston now charges qualifiers $270 and Chicago $250. We found 19 U.S. marathons open for less than $100 this week, several on certified Boston-qualifying courses, and some of those prices end on Oct. 31.
I finished the Toronto Waterfront Half-Marathon in 1:22:10, more than 12 minutes faster than my debut and nearly three minutes under a goal I only half believed in. I got there by running when I wanted, at the pace I wanted, and racing whenever I could.
Mile Zero presented by Zappos goes live from the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Chicago Marathon weekend, presented by Zappos. Michael Doyle, Alex Cyr and Katelyn Tocci are joined on stage by Tanya Hvizdak, VP and GM of Nike Running, and Keira D’Amato, former American marathon record holder and author.
