Morning all! This is Kristen Wong from Sports Illustrated, writing to you with potential hearing loss in my right ear. That’s what happens when you attend a Knicks watch party in a club in Brooklyn and New York actually wins. Who woulda thought? Not me, a non-believer who forgot to bring earplugs. Onto the sports.
Forward to this to a shameless Knicks bandwagoner who could do with reading an NBA blog or two.

KNICKS VS SPURS: Ok, yeah. This series is going to be legen—wait for it like the entire city of New York waited with bated breath to see if Jalen Brunson was okay after appearing to get hurt—dary. Game 1 of the NBA finals did not disappoint as Brunson and Victor Wembanyama squared off in the marquee NBA matchup of the postseason. Catch up on the Knicks’ thrilling upset win on the road in our live blog of the game. As to be expected, plenty of A-list celebrities made the trip out to San Antonio to watch Game 1, including the usual Knicks superfan suspects as well as a few surprises.
ICEMAN: The Madden NFL 27 cover was released on Wednesday, and Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was given the honor (or maybe the misfortune?) of gracing the game’s famous jacket. That said, we don’t necessarily think he was the guy to pick. In fact, Mike Kadlick, Eva Geithem and Karl Rasmussen outlined why EA Sports should have picked one of these three players instead. … But we didn’t stop there: our Tom Dierberger also ranked the four most surprising Madden covers in history.
TAKE A SWING: Jack Nicklaus’s Memorial Tournament begins today and will run through June 7. Here’s a look at the history of the event, the tee times, and how to watch. … Speaking of Nicklaus, he’d like to see some changes with what he believes is a cramped PGA Tour schedule, and also recently weighed in on the controversial topic of the rollback. … And, in other big swings, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka was eliminated from the French Open on Wednesday and was feeling quite discouraged in the aftermath.

A little something to get you through your day ...
SAY CHEESE: A fan in San Antonio ran onto the court during Game 1 of Spurs-Knicks trying to get a selfie with Victor Wembanyama. Did Wemby actually smile for the photo? It sure looks like it. What a man of the people. At least it wasn’t an annoying bat trying to interrupt the game—it was just an annoying clout-chasing kid.
MELO MEETS MELO: I know, I know, this was more promotional content than anything. But I’ll be honest: I got chills! Sue me! When a young Knicks fan missed out on his chance to attend a game during the Eastern Conference finals (he had tickets to Game 5, but there was no Game 5), Carmelo Anthony and Fanatics teamed up to send him tickets to the Finals and a new jersey. Ugh. So cute.
FOREVER YOUNG: Someone got an incredible photo during Mariners-Mets on Monday night, but I’m just seeing it now. Take a peek here.

Stanley Cup Final:
Golden Knights @ Hurricane, Game 2—8 p.m. ET; ABC
We’re back for more hockey after Tuesday’s Game 1. Vegas currently leads this series with one win, so Carolina will be looking to get on the board themselves before the competition moves to Sin City.
WNBA:
Dream @ Fever—7 p.m. ET; Prime Video Valkyries @ Lynx—9 p.m. ET; Prime Video
The Fever, besieged by purportedly unnecessary drama surrounding a viral sideline moment between Caitlin Clark and coach Stephanie White, are looking to get back on the board with a win following a four-day break. Keep in mind that Angel Reese is with the Dream now, so we’ll get to see her and Clark together.
Later, it’s over to Minnesota to watch the Lynx, who lead the Western Conference with a 7–2 record. Another chance to watch rookie Olivia Miles do her thing.
