Criminal Division
Roanoke, Virginia
Announcement #: 23-WDVA-AUSA-03
Application Deadline: March 15, 2023
The USAO-WDVA is seeking applications for an Assistant U.S. Attorney position within the Criminal Division for the
Roanoke or Abingdon Office.
An appointment as an AUSA offers a unique and challenging experience for a highly motivated attorney: the opportunity
to handle their own caseload in which they investigate and prosecute a wide variety of federal criminal offenses
including white collar crime, national security and civil rights offenses, public corruption, organized crime, violent crime,
narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, child exploitation crimes, and other offenses.
An AUSA engaged in this challenging work should expect to spend time developing cases with federal agents and
investigators, researching and writing, and preparing for trials, sentencings, and other hearings.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
All initial attorney appointments in the Department of Justice are made on a time-limited (temporary) basis pending
favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
