Assistant United States Attorney's 10/28/2022 08:40 AM EDT USAO Eastern District of Virginia Criminal Division Alexandria, Virginia Announcement #: 23-EDVA-11710088-AUSA Application Deadline: November 14, 2022 An appointment as an AUSA with the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia offers unique and challenging experiences for highly motivated attorneys, including an opportunity to work on their own caseload and handle their own trials and appeals as a representative of the United States.  Working in the Criminal Division of the Alexandria Office, the AUSA will be part of a dedicated team helping to prosecute federal crimes, with an emphasis on Civil Rights, in the Major Crimes Unit.  This Unit handles prosecutions involving a wide variety of violent and gang-related crimes, including murders, kidnappings, racketeering, firearms trafficking conspiracies, robberies, and carjackings, as well as crimes involving civil rights, human trafficking, human rights, immigration, and other cases as needed.  This position will involve prosecuting all types of Major Crime Unit cases (approximately 50-70% of this position's case load), with a special emphasis on criminal civil rights cases (approximately 30-50% of this position's case load, with room to grow depending on the needs of our communities).  This position may also involve an assignment as the coordinator of civil rights cases across the Eastern District of Virginia, as well as civil rights-related outreach to law enforcement, community groups, and other organizations as needed.
