Sports: What to read and watch

Read about the sale of Chelsea, watch the N.B.A. playoffs.

What to Read This Weekend

Chelsea had lined up at least three multibillion-dollar offers for the team. On Friday, it received a fourth.Neil Hall/EPA, via Shutterstock

The sale of the Premier League soccer team Chelsea, which was set off when the British government sanctioned its Russian owner for his ties to the Kremlin, was already the most peculiar team sale in recent sports history. On Friday, it suddenly became the most confusing, after one of Britain's richest men entered the fray with a bold bid that upended a process that had appeared to be nearing its end, Tariq Panja writes.

The offer put forward by Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire chief executive of the chemicals giant Ineos, was worth $5.3 billion, and would represent the highest price ever paid for a sports team. What to Watch This Weekend

The Celtics were impressive in ending the Nets' postseason with a four-game sweep.Michelle Farsi for The New York Times

All times are Eastern.

Basketball

Whether you've recovered from all the play-in and first round action, it's time for the second round of the N.B.A. playoffs, and all the big guns are still alive. The Celtics, impressive in ending the Nets' season, are rewarded with a tough series against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks (Game 1, Sunday, 1 p.m., ABC).

Soccer

Though the teams have been competing in a Cup tournament, the N.W.S.L. season proper begins this weekend. Last year's champion, the Portland Thorns, get started with a home game against the Kansas City Current (Saturday, 6 p.m., Twitch). In Europe, the women's Champions League has an all-French semifinal with mighty Lyon holding a one-goal lead, but having to travel to Paris to meet P.S.G. (Saturday, 3 p.m., DAZN).

Baseball

Is Max Scherzer off to a good start with the Mets? How about 3-0, a 1.80 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 25 innings? Next up are the Phillies. Mayday! (Sunday, 7:08 p.m., ESPN).

Football

Sure, even the casual fans watched the first two days of the N.F.L. draft. But we know you're hard core enough to watch rounds four, five, six and seven (Saturday, noon, ESPN).
