Chemical Waste Management on Tribal Lands

For 2020, 42 facilities located in the Indian country of 19 different federally recognized tribes reported to the EPA's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). These facilities collectively reported managing 16 million pounds of chemical waste, 5.3 million pounds of which was released into the environment. Most of these releases were disposed of on site at electric utilities and metal mines.

You can explore these and other tribal data in the 2020 TRI National Analysis.
