We honor all those who have served in the U.S. military and give thanks for the sacrifices they and their families have made defending our freedom. U.S. Department of Labor November 12, 2021 Honoring employers who invest in hiring and retaining veterans In a virtual ceremony, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and other department representatives honored the 849 recipients of the 2021 HIRE Vets Medallion Award, which recognizes employers that invest in recruiting, employing and retaining veterans. Watch the HIRE Vets Medallion Awards ceremony Learn more about the HIRE Vets program Better service for those who served In a conversation with Navy veteran Jessica Case, Secretary Walsh discussed Case's experiences transitioning from the military, Labor Department programs that serve veterans and how to improve outreach. Joint initiative to end retaliation and protect worker rights The Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are raising awareness about retaliation issues when workers exercise their protected labor rights. The joint initiative will launch with an online dialogue Nov. 17. Protecting workers' civil liberties We published a proposed rule that aims to protect workers' rights and safeguard religious freedom by rescinding a 2020 rule affecting federal contractors and subcontractors. Electrical safety Following a rise in fatal workplace electrocutions, OSHA is urging Midwest employers to emphasize electrical safety. Whistleblower protections A Texas hotel operator will pay back wages and damages to a worker fired after reporting concerns about carbon monoxide exposure and seeking medical treatment. Back wages A federal court has ordered a Pennsylvania gas station and convenience store to pay $281,029 in back wages and liquidated damages to two underpaid employees.
