Tom Seaver, a dominant and beloved New York Mets pitcher, died Monday in his sleep of complications from COVID-19 and of Lewy body dementia, the baseball Hall of Fame said in a statement.Seaver, who won 311 games, had a 2.86 earned-run average and earned three Cy Young Awards over a 20-year major league career, was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1992 with 98.8 percent of ballots cast in his favor, the highest voting percentage ever received at the time. |
