He bicycled past the scene of a crime. Google tracked him. And that made him a suspect.

Stumped on a burglary, police in Gainesville, Florida, asked Google for data on anyone who'd been nearby. That data led police to suspect Zachary McCoy, 30, who lives in the neighborhood.

McCoy, baffled and horrified, fought to clear his name. He soon realized that the app he was using to track his bike rides had collected his location data — and he'd biked past the victim's house on the night of the burglary. "It was a nightmare scenario," McCoy said. "It was putting me at the scene of the crime. And I was the lead suspect."
