Good morning, sports fans! This is your captain, Brigid Kennedy, speaking, and I am preparing to land this newsletter-shaped plane directly on top of your inbox. Please refrain from moving about the cabin.
Alright. Enough of that metaphor. Forward this to your friend who just watched Off-Campus for a third time this weekend (It’s me. I’m the friend).

JUNE 1: Yesterday was June 1, which means there was plenty of news in the NFL world. For those unfamiliar with the significance of that date, it just means that NFL teams are able to trade or release a player for a slightly more palatable financial hit than if they made the same move before June 1. This salary cap calculus is why the Eagles waited so long to trade wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots, a much-anticipated move that finally came to fruition on Monday afternoon. (For more on the June 1 lore, try this explainer.) … Speaking of Brown, are you confused as to why the Birds would get rid of their WR1? We’ve got a timeline for ya here, plus some trade grades if you’re curious. … Also on Monday, the Rams traded for star Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett in a mega-watt deal that included young Los Angeles stud Jared Verse, as well. … In New York, the Giants bolstered their receiver room by signing now-former Chiefs wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster and—wait for it—Odell Beckham Jr., who now returns to the team that drafted him 12 years ago. … No longer in the building, however, will be quarterback Russell Wilson, who has hung up his jersey (for now, at least) to take on a broadcasting role with CBS Sports. … Not enough drama for ya? SI’s Mike Kadlick thinks these five players could be on the trade block next.
COURTSIDE: First, some positively massive (but at this point, expected) news on the tennis court—Serena Williams is unretiring, and will be playing in the HSBC Championships starting June 8. This really is just like Carrie Soto Is Back, isn’t it? … Anyway, here’s what needs to happen for her to play at Wimbledon. … On the basketball court, meanwhile, Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White opened up about their tense sideline interaction that went viral over the weekend. (Spoiler alert: they’re all good.)

NEW NUMBER, WHO DIS?: In Cleveland, Myles Garrett wore No. 95. But in Los Angeles, that jersey is already taken (specifically, by defensive tackle Poona Ford). And when a fan joked that Garrett will never let Ford keep it now, the Rams DT had the funniest reply.

Stanley Cup Final:
Golden Knights @ Hurricanes, Game 1—8 p.m. ET; ABC
The Stanley Cup Finals have arrived, with Game 1 slated for tonight at 8 p.m. ET. As for stakes, the Canes haven’t won the Cup since 2006. For Vegas, however, that history is much more recent; the club won it all in 2023.
MLB:
Padres @ Phillies—6:40 p.m. ET; TBS
Last week, the Phillies swept the Padres in San Diego. This week, revenge is in order. Tuesday marks the first contest in a three-game series.
That’s all for today. Have fun, do good, and Garrett Graham forever.
