Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... First male accuser testifies against R. Kelly in singer's sex-trafficking trial After several days of testimony from women claiming they were groomed and sexually abused by R. Kelly, a man took the witness stand at Kelly's sex-trafficking trial in New York City on Monday to say the R&B star exploited him in the same way when he was a high school student.
The witness was testifying as part of a cooperation agreement stemming from his guilty plea in a separate case alleging he was part of a botched scheme to bribe a woman to not testify against Kelly. No charges were brought against Kelly related to the scheme.
Kelly, 54, was charged in July 2019 with racketeering based on sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, forced labor and Mann Act violations — charges involving the coercion and transportation of women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity, according to a Department of Justice news release.
What happens when your lawyer goes missing? These 17 defendants find out Seventeen defendants facing charges related to their participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot are currently without representation. That's because their lawyer, John Pierce, has effectively gone missing. He was last heard from on August 23, and, since then, his associate, Ryan Marshall, has been showing up in his place. That's a problem since Marshall is not licensed to practice law, and is currently facing his own criminal charges in Pennsylvania.
"Mr. Marshall cannot ethically or legally represent Mr. Pierce's clients," said prosecutors earlier this week. "The United States thus finds itself in a position where this defendant and 16 other defendants charged in connection with the Capitol Riot appear to be effectively without counsel. Unfortunately, it seems that Mr. Pierce may be hospitalized and unable to communicate, and it is unclear when Mr. Pierce will recover… This case is effectively at a standstill."
So where exactly is Pierce? At first, Marshall said that his boss was in an accident that necessitated hospital care, then claimed he had contracted coronavirus, and then later, a different source said that Pierce was dehydrated and exhausted. Some of his clients belong to the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers far-right groups. Since his mysterious disappearance, his phone lines have been disconnected and he stopped posting to Twitter. It seems that, at least for now, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Pakistan says 11 Islamic State militants killed in raid Pakistan's counter-terrorism agents raided a hideout of the Islamic State organization in the southwestern Baluchistan province before sunrise on Tuesday, setting off a shootout that killed eleven militants, the police stated.
The units, acting on intelligence, executed the raid in the district of Mastung, in which IS militants had recently killed two law enforcement officials. The police said suicide belts, hand grenades and assault rifles were confiscated in the raid.
The counter-terrorism department gave no additional information and the nationality of the slain militants was not immediately identified. The counter-terrorism police is a unique department of the police that fights militant groups.
Quetta is the capital of the Baluchistan province in which IS group has claimed several attacks in recent years. IS has nearby affiliates in both Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan. Baluchistan is likewise the scene of a low-level insurgency through Baluch separatist agencies, which have additionally focused on non-Baluch workers. but, in contrast to IS, they don't have any records of attacks on the minority Shiite community.
