Morning all! This is SI’s Brigid Kennedy, back with another data dump on the latest and greatest in sports. To those of you who forwent last night’s episode of Love Island U.S.A. to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals, I am wishing you a spoiler-free Tuesday. π
Forward this to a friend who would love to pull Mikal Bridges for a chat after his very lackluster performance on Monday night.

SWEEP NO MORE: Can you believe things other than the NBA Finals happened today? I sure can’t. Here’s a three-word rundown of Game 3: The Spurs won. It was a thrilling finish and the exact kind of basketball game you’d hope to see on the NBA’s biggest stage. With the win, San Antonio is now officially on the board, and the Knicks’ historic winning streak has ended. Now, we wait to see what happens in Game 4. … Oh, and how did we do on the bold prediction front? … In other news, the atmosphere around Madison Square Garden looked very different on Monday night thanks to one incredibly high-profile guest (who might have fallen asleep at one point?), but inside, it looked just as you’d expect ... which is to say that it was chock full of celebrities.
SORSBYGATE: In another “what the heck is going on in college sports” moment (which continue to arise in spades, mind you), Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby was ruled eligible to play in 2026 after winning a temporary injunction in a Lubbock County district court on Monday. … As a reminder, Sorsby came under fire in May for placing illegal (by NCAA standards) bets during his time in Indiana in 2022. Shortly after that revelation, he announced he would be entering rehab for a gambling addiction. … Now, with the court’s ruling in mind, how soon could he actually take the field? … Plus, in a sign of just how unpopular this decision is, plenty of rival programs are said to be considering scheduling boycotts against the Red Raiders in response.

More stuff to read...
CC ON CRITICISM: If you’ve been keeping up with the WNBA as of late, you’re probably aware that Caitlin Clark has been the subject of plenty of criticism … particularly as it pertains to her attitude and behavior on the court. On Monday, ahead of the Fever’s win vs. the Mystics, Clark commented on all the chatter (and tactfully, at that).
MONEY WELL SPENT: As devoted readers of this newsletter certainly know, a ticket to Game 3 at MSG was not cheap. I mean, we’re talking thousands of dollars for nosebleeds. So, was it worth it? Absolutely, according to the attendees who talked with our Liam McKeone ahead of tip-off.
LOVE THEM TO DEATH: And, in another example of New Yorkers going all in on this Finals run, I feel compelled to let you know that a Brooklyn funeral home is hosting a watch party for Game 4. Yes, a funeral home. (And stay tuned: I’ll be talking with them about it soon. π)

πΊ What we’re watching tonight ... |
|
|
|
Stanley Cup Final:
Hurricanes @ Golden Knights, Game 4—8 p.m. ET; ABC
Saturday’s Game 3 went to double OT after the Golden Knights shockingly blew a four-goal lead, but the Vegas squad still managed to take home the win. Tonight, they’ll see if they can push their series tally to three games vs. Carolina’s one, unless the Hurricanes figure out a way to even things up.
WNBA:
Dream @ Sky—7 p.m. ET; ESPN There are three W games on tonight, but only one is televised (a shame, considering Wings-Lynx should be good, too!): Dream star Angel Reese will make her return to Chicago at 7 p.m. ET, her first regular-season game against her former franchise since the April trade that sent her down South. (Reese did play a preseason game against the Sky shortly after the deal went through.)
MLB:
Yankees @ Guardians—6:40 p.m. ET; TBS, Prime Video
The Guardians sit at the top of the AL Central, while the Yankees are second in the AL East. New York took the first game of this series on Monday, but we’ll see what happens tonight!
That’s all for today. Have fun watching sports, and also Love Island.
