Good morning, basketball fans! At least, I’m assuming we are all basketball fans after the magic that was last night’s Game 4. OG Anunoby, take a bow. Anyway, my name is Brigid Kennedy, and I am here to recap it all (plus some NFL news) for you below.
First, though, fancy a brain teaser? How about naming every Finals MVP since 2000? Forward this to a friend you think could do that in their sleep.

KNICKS IN FIVE?: So, uhhhhhh, Game 4, amirite? If you’re a Spurs fan, you’re going to want to forget that ever happened. If you’re a Knicks fan, I hope you did not destroy the city in celebration. Because that … was one of the wildest finishes I have ever seen. New York looked positively lifeless for most of Wednesday night’s game—they trailed by 29 at one point—only to somehow, someway, snag their first lead of the game with about a minute left on the clock. Suddenly, the Spurs found themselves staring down a capital-C Collapse, before watching it all fall apart on an OG Anunoby tip-in that will become the stuff of legend. If the Knicks have taught us anything, it’s that no lead is safe. James Dolan’s bold prediction from earlier on Wednesday is looking quite good now, isn’t it? … So what does New York’s 107–106 win mean? How should we process this? As usual, we’ve got the takeaways for you here. … Also worth noting is that Victor Wembanyama is now one flagrant foul away from an automatic suspension. Just going to leave that there. … Of course, the celebrities were out and about on Wednesday night, as was Taylor Swift, who wore matching shirts with Este and Alana Haim (could it have been her signature “Tayvoodoo” that swung the game? Probably). … Curious as to where Wednesday’s game ranks in terms of Finals comebacks? We’ve got that for you, too. ... Anyway, New York now leads this championship series three games to one. Game 5 is slated for Saturday in San Antonio.
PATRICK’S PAY DAY: On Wednesday, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes agreed to a new contract extension that locks him up in Kansas City through 2033 (yes, that’s a real year). Oh, and the contract value sits at $504.75 million, which means Mahomes is now the NFL’s first-ever half-billion-dollar player. Drinks on him, for sure. … In case you’re wondering, here is a list of the highest-paid athletes in the four major U.S. men’s sports. … Speaking of quarterbacks, Browns QB Deshaun Watson responded to some of the chatter surrounding his team’s starting job. … And we’ve got lots of other updates from minicamps across the league. … P.S. This isn’t NFL-related, but, for those of you who are interested in the Brendan Sorsby drama, this timeline breaks it all down for ya.

TIL DEATH: Remember the Brooklyn funeral home hosting the Knicks watch party? Well, I chatted with the owner. She told me all about the impetus for the party, which was not meant to be funny and was, in reality, inspired by the vulnerability of Karl-Anthony Towns. Very sweet.
GIANNIS IN FOUR: Also, remember all of that back and forth about whether Milwaukee would trade star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo? Well, it does sound like a deal is still on the table. And apparently, it is possible the Knicks remain in the mix depending on how this Finals series plays out. Tea!

Stanley Cup Final:
Golden Knights @ Hurricanes, Game 5—8 p.m. ET; ABC
If there is one thing these two teams are gonna do, it’s keep us on our toes. The series is tied after the Canes grabbed a much-needed win in Game 4 on Tuesday, 5–3. Tonight, we’re back in Carolina for more.
WNBA:
Sky @ Fever—7 p.m. ET; Prime Video Mercury @ Wings—9 p.m. ET; Prime Video
The Fever are 2–1 in Commissioner’s Cup play; the Sky are 1–3. We will see how those fortunes change when both teams square up in their first of three meetings this season. Later, the Wings will look to shake off a tough 100–76 loss to the Lynx when they host the Mercury, who are also fresh off a defeat.
MLB:
Mariners @ Orioles—7 p.m. ET; ESPN
Seattle ends a four-game road trip in Baltimore with this tilt tonight. It’ll be either a 2-2 or 3-1 series finish, depending.
And that is my final newsletter of the week, y’all. Kristen Wong has got you covered tomorrow, and I’ll see you back here on Monday morning, as usual.
