View Online IMMEDIATE RELEASE Secretary of Defense General Officer Announcements for June 5, 2025 June 5, 2025 Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced today that the president has made the following nomination: Air Force Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich for appointment to the grade of general while serving as Supreme Allied Commander, Europe.  NATO has also agreed to appoint Lt. Gen. Grynkewich as Supreme Allied Commander, Europe.  Lt. Gen. Grynkewich is currently serving as director of Operations, J-3, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. In addition to the NATO position, Lt. Gen. Grynkewich will be assigned as commander, U.S. European Command.
