VIX Spikes, Stocks Tank and Cash Piles Up — How Traders Are Surviving This Sell-Off

JOIN US HERE! _________________________________________________   VIX Spikes, Stocks Tank and Cash Piles Up — How Traders Are Surviving This Sell-Off  Stocks are once again down BIG ahead of the open as we continue to see the fallout from Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff policy. About an hour before the open, the Dow is down over 900 points but rising off the overnight lows while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are down over 2.8% and 3.1%, respectively.  Volatility is also up over 8% with the VIX just shy of 50 — a score of 20 means average volatility. The VIX rarely goes all the way to 60 and when it does, it usually backs off very fast.  The bond market (TLT) is starting to stabilize. We’re not seeing a flight to quality today, which tells me people are putting it into cash instead of the bond market. The U.S. dollar is actually showing positive signs, coming back up into the range.  Gold is also still falling and keying off the 50-day moving average. Crude oil looks like it could be bottoming out.  All of these signs point to a recession. We need China’s (FXI) market to stop going down so we can then get a better picture of where the global economy stands. The U.S. economy is highly global We have some pretty big Fed reports coming this week including the Consumer and Producer Price Indexes on Thursday and Friday, and Consumer Sentiment also on Friday.
