Dominican Republic National Charged with Illegally Re-Entering the United States 03/11/2025 08:00 AM EDT St. Thomas, VI – United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced today that Joan TavarezBueno, 33, of the Dominican Republic, was charged with illegally entering the United States afterbeing previously removed. Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty to Shooting Mother and Minor Daughter 02/28/2025 07:00 AM EST St. Croix, VI – United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced today that Miguel Marrero, 52, of St. Croix, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Emile A. Henderson, III, to Discharge of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Assault in the First Degree, and Assault in the First Degree. For his conviction, Marrero faces a maximum sentence of up to life in prison. A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
