| International agents and attorneys: Learn to think like a patent examiner If you're a USPTO-registered patent agent or attorney, it helps to think like a patent examiner. Get a better understanding of how examiners make decisions by attending the four-day Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP) international agent-attorney course, March 4-7, from noon to 4:15 p.m. ET. The course is for registered agents and attorneys who live outside of the United States. Days 2, 3, and 4 build upon the previous day's lessons. - Day one focuses on the role of an examiner and steps an examiner takes when reading an application for the first time.
- Day two uses the information gathered during day one to plan and conduct a search, emphasizing relevant legal statutes.
- Day three builds upon day two, applying relevant statutes about mapping prior art to the sample claims.
- Day four finishes the course by discussing mapping art to claims and writing an office action.
To attend, you must submit an interest form and meet certain criteria. Interest forms are being accepted until February 25 or until registration is full.
