JANUARY 23, 2025 Highlights 2024 National Recreational Fishing Highlights NOAA Fisheries made significant strides in 2024 to advance and promote sustainable recreational fisheries and fishing opportunities across the nation. West Coast NOAA Fisheries and Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission Promote Fisheries-Related Career Paths for Tribal Youth The Native Youth Salmon Summit this fall gave students hands-on experience while mentoring and tutoring programs under development will offer continued support. Four-Month Survey Tracking West Coast Marine Mammals Finds Some Shifting North Learn about our scientists' findings from a 4-month survey of marine mammals and seabirds off the U.S. West Coast. Science Blog: Science in Antarctica—The Bigger Picture Flying gliders is complicated and a little nerve-wracking, so why do we do it? Research biologist Jen Walsh describes what it's like working with gliders and how we're using them to collect important data on Antarctic krill. Southeast Predicting Sawfish Habitat in a Changing Environment NOAA Fisheries and partners published research that identifies key habitat features of juvenile endangered smalltooth sawfish and predicts where else they could be. New England/Mid-Atlantic Science Blog: Environmental DNA Survey Continues in the Southern New England Wind Energy Area Join environmental DNA Program Lead Yuan Liu on a survey in the Southern New England Wind Energy Area. She uses environmental DNA side by side with passive acoustic monitoring technologies to track marine life.
