Why Waiting on the Sidelines Could Be Your Best Bet  Stocks are down pretty big pretty much across the board ahead of the open, which is not great news to start the new holiday-shortened trading week… With New Year’s Day on Wednesday, this week is no time to be a hero. There likely won’t be much volume at all this week or next, and I don’t expect things to pick up until late next week. The U.S. Dollar Index is getting a little weaker, which should help commodities some. But I wouldn’t put too much faith in crude oil just yet… The dollar’s weakness should also help gold, which has been sticking to its moving average. Gold needs to rise above the $2,780 level before it’s time to go long.
