| Patent Center launches new features for DOCX documents After feedback from patent applicants, the USPTO has made two enhancements to Patent Center involving the DOCX format. The new features enable more efficient downloading and uploading of documents to make your application process easier. One new Patent Center feature in Training Mode allows you to directly access the Upload Documents screen for nonprovisional utility applications. This will enable quicker downloading of validations in DOCX as well as the feedback document that pinpoints the location of warnings and errors. Another change to Patent Center enables you to upload preliminary amendment documents in DOCX as part of the initial submission of a new utility application. Until now, such uploads were only allowed as follow-ons. Applicants can still provide a single auxiliary PDF (backup PDF) of DOCX documents. A single auxiliary PDF containing your original DOCX documents and the preliminary amendment DOCX documents is allowed. Refer to the Quick Reference Guide for more information about such submissions. Patent Center allows for continuous enhancements to better serve the intellectual property community. For guidance using Patent Center and other valuable resources, visit the information page. More information about DOCX filing is available at the DOCX webpage, including a link to training sessions on filing documents in DOCX.
