John Chen, 71, of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Los Angeles, was sentenced today to 20 months in prison for acting as unregistered agents of the PRC and bribing an IRS agent in connection with a plot to target U.S.-based practitioners of Falun Gong — a spiritual practice banned in the PRC.

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that JOHN CHEN was sentenced today to 20 months in prison for acting as an unregistered agent of the government of the People's Republic of China ("PRC") and bribing an Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") agent in connection with a plot to target U.S.-based practitioners of Falun Gong — a spiritual practice banned in the PRC.
