Kamala Harris to sit down with NBC News with two weeks until election |
With exactly two weeks until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris will sit down today with our Hallie Jackson at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., for an interview that will air on our broadcast this evening. Jackson also obtained exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Harris' campaign stops in the critical battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin on Monday alongside Republican Liz Cheney. Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, has two stops planned today in Wisconsin, including an appearance in Madison with former President Barack Obama and a rally in Racine, as early voting gets underway today in that critical battleground state. Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, took part today in a roundtable event with Latino leaders at his golf club in Miami, where he attacked Harris as "the worst" and "lazy as hell." This evening he has a rally scheduled in Greensboro, North Carolina. On Friday, Trump will tape an interview with Joe Rogan's podcast, according to two sources familiar with the planning, and Harris will hold an event in Houston focused on abortion rights, her campaign announced. |

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO arrested on sex trafficking charges |
The former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, Mike Jeffries, has been arrested on sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges, federal prosecutors announced today. From 2008 to 2015, Jeffries, his partner Matthew Smith, and a third defendant pressured dozens of men to attend "sex events" around the world, and led some victims to believe that doing so "could yield modeling opportunities with Abercrombie," according to the indictment. The defendants plied their victims with muscle relaxants and Viagra, as staffers acting as security controlled the entry and exits to the parties, the indictment alleges. Jeffries and Smith are scheduled to make their initial appearances this afternoon in federal court in Florida, and will be arraigned in New York at a later date, the Justice Department said. Jeffries' attorney told NBC News: "We will respond in detail to the allegations after the Indictment is unsealed, and when appropriate, but plan to do so in the courthouse — not the media." |
Blinken renews push for cease-fire in meeting with Netanyahu |
Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem today, as the U.S. renews its push to de-escalate tensions in Gaza and Lebanon following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Blinken emphasized to Netanyahu the need to capitalize on Sinwar's death by securing the release of all hostages and ending the conflict in Gaza "in a way that provides lasting security for Israelis and Palestinians alike," a State Department spokesman said. Israel's security cabinet is considering an Egyptian proposal for a two-week truce in Gaza, an Israeli official told NBC News, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Blinken's visit comes as U.S. officials are investigating the apparent leak of top secret U.S. documents concerning Israel's plans for retaliation after Iran's massive missile attack earlier this month. |
U.S. charges Iran Revolutionary Guard general with assassination plot |
The U.S. has charged a brigadier general with Iran's Revolutionary Guard in a plot to kill an Iranian American journalist and activist on U.S. soil, according to a new indictment filed today. Ruhollah Bazghandi and three other men are now charged in the plot to kidnap and kill Masih Alinejad, who has been living in exile in New York. Alinejad was not named in the indictment, but confirmed to the Associated Press she was the intended target. Three other men were previously charged in the case, including one suspect who was arrested after allegedly lurking outside Alinejad's home with a rifle in 2022. Bazghandi is not in custody, and was charged in absentia. |
