Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of a report on six grants totaling approximately $1 million awarded by the Iowa Department of Justice (Iowa DOJ) to Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) awarded these grants to the Iowa DOJ, as the state administering agency, to make subawards for the purpose of providing comprehensive services and shelter to victims of sexual assault, homicide, and other violent crimes. As of March 2024, the Iowa DOJ had reimbursed CIS a total of $588,553. The DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found that CIS used the grant funds to provide services and shelter to victims of sexual assault, homicide, and other violent crimes in Iowa. However, the OIG identified that CIS could improve certain areas of its grant management, particularly its performance reporting procedures and financial procedures. The DOJ OIG made three recommendations to OJP and the Iowa DOJ to improve CIS' grant management and administration. OJP agreed with all three recommendations. The Iowa DOJ concurred and CIS agreed with the three recommendations. |
