A new heat hazard alert, support for nursing mothers, child labor protections and more U.S. Department of Labor August 3, 2023 ☀️ 🌡️ Employers have a duty to protect workers from deadly heat hazards OSHA issued a hazard alert reminding employers of their duty to protect workers against heat – even in Texas. The action comes as President Biden announced new actions to protect workers from extreme heat and new investments to protect communities, amid record-breaking heat across the country. OSHA's heat hazard alert Biden's actions to protect workers and communities from extreme heat Empowerment, equity and enforcement At the National Urban League conference in Texas, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su discussed the barriers Black Americans face in the workforce. "By empowering workers, creating equity and enforcing worker rights, we can build an America as good as its promise," Su said. Interagency Task Force is protecting children from exploitative labor The Interagency Task Force to Combat Child Labor Exploitation has taken many steps to protect children since it formed in February. The department's efforts include ramping up enforcement, interagency training, updating educational materials and expanding partnerships. In 2022, OSHA added Dollar General to its Severe Violator Enforcement Program, which includes employers who have shown an indifference to their legal obligations to provide a safe and healthy workplace.
