An appointment with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia ("the Office") offers unique and challenging experiences for the highly motivated attorneys: an opportunity to work on their own caseload and handle their own trials. Working on Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters in the Civil Division, the AUSA represents the United States' interests by investigating and bringing affirmative civil actions, including under the False Claims Act and other statutes and common law causes of action.
In March 2020, Congress passed a $2.2 trillion economic relief bill known as the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act designed to provide emergency financial assistance to the millions of Americans who are suffering the economic effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The attorney selected for this position will use civil tools to address and enforce fraud in connection with CARES Act programs. The Office's efforts to combat COVID-19 related fraud schemes have included investigations involving the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, Unemployment Insurance (UI) programs, and COVID-19 health care fraud enforcement. If deemed necessary by the Office, the attorney selected for this position may also be assigned other ACE matters.
This is a TERM appointment, which will be funded for thirteen months from the start date of employment. However, in the event that additional funding is received, this position may be extended, or made permanent, without further competition.

AUSAs immediately undertake cases, many high profile, in any of several units within each division Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) located in the Criminal Division of our Tucson, Arizona office will be responsible for prosecuting a variety of violations of federal laws such as Immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, and white collar crime.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
