The Oversight Section is seeking an experienced Supervisory Attorney Advisor to serve as a Deputy Section Chief of this Section. The major duties include:
- Assists in the overall management of the Oversight Section by assuming primary responsibility for certain functions and serves as Acting Chief of the Oversight Section in the Section Chief's absence.
- Supervises efforts to conduct oversight of the intelligence activities of the FBI and the implementation of FISA-related activities by other IC elements to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, FISA Court orders, FISC-approved legal procedures, and Department procedures, including the Attorney General's Guidelines.
- Assists the Chief of the Oversight Section in evaluating intelligence activities and programs, including existing and proposed foreign intelligence activities and national security investigations, to determine their consistency with U.S. law and policies.
- Handles particularly sensitive and complex matters within the Oversight Section, including matters requiring coordination with agencies in the intelligence community and Congress.
- Coordinates with IC and law enforcement agencies in order to achieve U.S. intelligence and other national security objectives. Represents NSD when interacting with other agencies on legal, policy and operational issues. Participates in meetings and planning sessions and updates Division leadership and staff on pending issues.
- Supervises and rates attorney advisors and other staff assigned to the Oversight Section. Plans, directs, and reviews work to be accomplished by subordinates. As required, establishes program emphasis, develops operating policies and guidelines, and communicates policies and priorities. In furtherance of these functions, determines and implements internal organization, practices, training needs, and improvements in work processes and procedures.
- Performs all other duties required to execute the programmatic, legal, and administrative agenda of the Office of Intelligence and the National Security Division related to intelligence oversight and compliance.
- Ensures that resource enhancements necessary for proposed priorities are identified and justified. Uses efficient and cost-effective approaches to integrate technology into the workplace for improved program effectiveness.
- Promotes and supports the Division's equal employment policies and programs designed to enhance workforce diversity aims. Demonstrates a firm commitment to applying merit promotion principles in all aspects of hiring, selection, training and development, and employee retention.
Due to COVID-19, if selected, you may be expected to telework for an undefined period under the Department's evacuation authority, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Employees in this status may be notified of a requirement to report in person to the component workplace with an advance notice of not less than 30 days. Prior to a requirement to report to the workplace, employees may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the component's telework policy.

As Chief of the FOIA/PA Unit, the incumbent is responsible for providing support and assistance in FOIA litigation and other litigation involving information disclosure. The incumbent advises Division and Department decision-makers and others on legal and policy issues relating to FOIA and the Privacy Act, and other access laws. The incumbent supervises the processing of all FOIA, PA, and Section 4F requests received by the Division and advocates the Division's position on all FOIA and PA appeals.
