As Chief, Housing and Civil Enforcement, the successful candidate:

  • Plans and directs a nationwide program to enforce federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in housing, lending, zoning and land use, and places of public accommodation. In addition, HCE also enforces laws that provide protections for servicemembers, religious assemblies, and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Oversees the enforcement of federal statutes listed herein prohibiting discrimination in housing, credit, and public accommodations and providing protections for servicemembers, religious assemblies and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Such challenges may include, for example, those resulting from increased reliance on discriminatory algorithmic tools in the areas of housing and lending, or new research concerning appraisal bias in the real estate market.
  • Meets, coordinates, and fosters good working relationships with the United States Attorneys' Offices, other Department of Justice ("DOJ" or "Department") components, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, federal regulatory agencies, and other partner agencies.
