Funding Opportunities

DOE Announces $28 Million to Advance and Deploy Hydropower Technology

DOE announced more than $28 million across three funding opportunities to support projects that will advance and preserve hydropower as a critical source of clean energy. The funding allocations support projects such as the sustainable development of hydropower and pumped storage hydropower (PSH), studies that facilitate licensing, construction, and commissioning of new PSH, and raising the efforts of diverse hydropower stakeholders to find a path forward on hydropower issues and innovations.

Lithium Valley: Powering Our Clean Energy Transition

Lithium is essential for producing rechargeable batteries, and the Salton Sea in California may hold enough lithium to exceed America's domestic rechargeable needs. In consultation with local community leaders, DOE is exploring ways to extract it responsibly from deep geothermal waters.

Report Highlights Hydropower Industry's Demand for Diverse Talent

A new, diverse workforce is critical to the hydropower industry's ability to sustain current operations and growth. EERE's Water Power Technologies Office has funded an analysis of hydropower workforce trends that outlines the steps the industry needs to take to move ahead successfully.

What They Are Saying: State, Local and Climate Leaders Grateful and Excited About DOE Funding to Invigorate U.S. Battery Manufacturing

The first set of projects from the first round of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding has been released. Twenty companies are receiving a combined $2.8 billion to build and expand commercial-scale facilities in 12 states to extract and process lithium, graphite, and other battery materials, manufacture components, and demonstrate new approaches, including manufacturing components from recycled materials. Read more about these federal investments.
