NDEAM Social Media Toolkit – Resources Available

Join ODEP and close-out October's National Disability Employment Awareness Month by amplifying NDEAM messages throughout your social media channels. Download social media graphics, access the social media toolkit, find articles and read about strategies centered on this year's theme, "Disability: Part of the Equity Equation." 

Reminder: Mental Health within Native Communities Virtual Series

ODEP, along with the Department of Education and the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Native Americans and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities will host a virtual four-part dialogue series that addresses multiple topics that impact employment for American Indians and Alaskan Natives. Launching on November 1 at 1:00 PM ET, the first dialogue will focus on employment opportunities for American Indians and Alaskan Native individuals with mental health conditions. This virtual dialogue offers perspectives from Native people who have navigated mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder while also seeking employment.

Work Learning Activities as a Pathway to Competitive Integrated Employment 

Join ODEP's Employment First Community of Practice on November 9 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM ET for the webinar "Work Learning Activities as a Pathway to Competitive Integrated Employment". This webinar is the second part of a two-part webinar series on understanding community engagement being organized by ODEP, Department of Education, Health and Human Services, and members of the Federal Community Engagement Cross-Agency Workgroup. In this webinar, attendees will hear from panelists and leaders from across the country who model successful work learning programs as a second key component of Community Engagement. 

JAN Webcast: Providing Reasonable Accommodations to Veterans with Disabilities

Veterans with disabilities work in various industries and contribute unique skills and experience to the workforce. In observance of Veterans Day, the Job Accommodation Network will offer a timely and informative webcast about veterans with cognitive and mental health impairments and common accommodations that may be needed for success at work. JAN consultants will present accommodation situations and solutions and answer attendee questions during this free webcast on Thursday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Upcoming Webinar: Apprenticeship Intermediaries

This year celebrates the 85th anniversary of the passing of the National Apprenticeship Act of 1937 which established the Registered Apprenticeship Program. To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (Nov. 14-Nov. 20, 2022), the Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth is hosting a webinar with apprenticeship intermediaries on the evolution of apprenticeship, in general and for people with disabilities. This webinar will provide a brief overview of inclusive apprenticeships, feature speakers from apprenticeship intermediaries and highlight best practices to ensure apprenticeships are inclusive of youth & young adults with disabilities. The webinar takes place Tuesday, Nov 15, at 4:00 PM ET.

The Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship has a new Apprenticeship for All podcast episode: "Not Your Grandfather's Apprenticeship: Apprenticeships in Nontraditional Sectors." This episode features Joshua Johnson, Director of Jobs for the Future's National Innovation Hub for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility in Registered Apprenticeship, as he highlights apprenticeship in nontraditional sectors, disability disclosure challenges, and his passion for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In Case You Missed It! NDEAM Employer Chat: Video Recording Available

Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and ODEP's Assistant Secretary Taryn Williams welcomed a group of corporate employers and disability advocacy leaders recognized for their innovative approaches to fostering mental health-friendly workplaces.
The event, titled "NDEAM Employer Chat on Workplace Mental Health and Well-Being," emphasized the importance of supporting the needs of individuals with mental health conditions in the workplace as the nation experiences a mental health crisis driven, in part, by the pandemic. Panelists shared strategies for promoting best practices for workplace mental health initiatives.
