Renewable News

EERE's Geothermal Technologies Office produced a data visualization project, "Lithium and the Future of Electrification," that explains how geothermal energy can help meet the increasing demand for lithium, the primary component in batteries, in the United States. Visitors scroll through to read the story, which features animated graphics, flip cards, and more.

Research Team Identifies Challenges and Potential Solutions to Boost Offshore Wind Energy

A multi-institutional team led by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has identified scientific "grand challenges" and knowledge gaps that could lead to more offshore wind development and deployment off the nation's coasts. Find out what the team recommends doing to address these challenges.

EERE's Solar Energy Technologies Office helped EnergySage develop an online marketplace where consumers can compare the costs of solar panels, batteries, and inverters. Learn how this onetime start-up became a success story with federal support.

To celebrate National Hydropower Day on August 24, EERE's Water Power Technologies Office featured the many ways the office works with people from communities—from Alaska to Idaho to Puerto Rico—to support projects that increase energy resilience with hydropower.

Competitions

Two teams were awarded $500,000 in cash and $200,000 in vouchers for winning the American-Made Geothermal Manufacturing Prize, which incentivizes innovators to use 3D printing to address the challenges associated with operating sensitive equipment in harsh geothermal environments. The teams will use the prizes to test their innovations in the field.
