Veteran Afghanistan correspondent says the Taliban detained her and forced her to recant her reporting

Lynne O'Donnell, an Australian journalist who has done on-the-ground reporting in Afghanistan since 2001, says the Taliban is more brutal and vengeful than she's ever witnessed before. During her recent time in Kabul, O'Donnell was visited by Taliban intelligence officers who she says brought her to their headquarters July 19 and forced her to recant her reporting about the Taliban from 2021, focusing on reports on members of the Afghan LGBTQ community and on minors being forced into a life of sexual servitude to Taliban members.
