Bipartisan Infrastructure Law DOE Launches Program to Enable More Clean Energy on the Grid DOE allocated $3 million to launch the Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange (i2X), a partnership between grid operators, utilities, state and tribal governments, clean energy developers, and energy justice organizations to help solve challenges to deploying clean energy resources to the electricity grid. Grid Guardians DOE Awards $8 Million to Projects to Increase Hydropower Flexibility Three projects were awarded $8 million to help improve the flexibility of the U.S. hydropower fleet and enhance electric grid reliability. Hydropower can supply electricity immediately or store it to meet real-time demand. These projects will strengthen hydropower's ability to support the grid as it includes more variable renewable energy sources, like solar and wind. Clean Energy Champions Meet Clean Energy Champion Cliff Ho A 2008 softball game turned Cliff Ho into something of a rock star in the field…of solar energy. This was unexpected, considering Ho's field of expertise was ground and water contamination. But that game put him on a new path, and he invented a tool that is changing industries and could save lives. EERE Profile: Isaac Chan To honor Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, EERE celebrated Isaac Chan in the Advanced Manufacturing Office, who discussed his role curbing industrial emissions to make the earth a cleaner, sustainable environment for future generations. In Case You Missed It DOE Issues Notice of Intent to Fund Clean Energy Manufacturing Institute DOE announced its intent to issue a funding opportunity this summer that supports the development of a Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute dedicated to rapidly decreasing emissions across the industrial sector through electrified process heating. DOE's Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CYManll) Releases Five-Year Plan The CyManII, which supports early-stage research and development to improve the competitiveness of American manufacturing, secure supply chains, and bolster cybersecurity in energy-efficient manufacturing, released plans for its activities, priorities, and initiatives over the next five years. DOE Launches Two Workforce Development Programs to Support Zero-Energy Buildings To prepare building-design professionals and high school students interested in clean energy careers, DOE expanded the Solar Decathlon to include two workforce development programs. Solar Decathlon Professionals is a 10-week course co-developed by the American Institute of Architects to train professionals to incorporate zero-energy building techniques into their work. Email aiau@aia.org to learn more. Solar Decathlon Pathways will connect high school students with Solar Decathlon competition alumni to explore career opportunities in sustainable buildings. Alumni and educators interested in participating should complete this form. |
