ODEP at 20: Driving Change Through a Focus on the Future

The Office of Disability Employment Policy published the last blog in its 20th anniversary series on "ODEP at 20: Driving Change Through a Focus on the Future." In the blog, ODEP's Assistant Secretary Taryn Williams reflects on ODEP's accomplishments and outlines its current and future work to ensure employment equity for people with disabilities.

Workforce Recruitment Program Database

The Workforce Recruitment Program released its 2022 database of more than 2,350 college students, graduate students and recent graduate applicants to federal employers. Federal agencies can use the Schedule A hiring authority to hire WRP candidates directly through an expedited hiring process. The Office of Disability Employment Policy manages the WRP in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense.

Advancing Worker Equity Final Summary Report

ePolicyWorks published the final summary report for its recent national online dialogue, "Advancing Worker Equity in the U.S. Department of Labor's Policies, Programs and Procurement." Hosted by six agencies within the U.S. Department of Labor, the dialogue gathered input on ways DOL can promote equity in federal contracting and federal contractor workplaces and explored equity in the department's outreach and education efforts, regulation enforcement and unemployment insurance program. The summary report includes key takeaways, themes, resources and more, which will be used help DOL ensure all of its programs and activities contribute to a more equitable labor market where all Americans have access to the skills and opportunities they need to find a high-quality job with a family-sustaining wage.

American Sign Language and Captioning Requests

The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology Hosting published "How to Handle Captioning & ASL Requests for Virtual Meetings." This resource provides tips on responding to American Sign Language and captioning requests for virtual meetings.

Job Accommodation Network Solution Showcase Videos

The Job Accommodation Network released new Solution Showcase videos. These videos highlight examples of products and services that can be used as effective job accommodations. Recent topics include "Compact Material Handling," "Video Remote Interpreting and Video Relay Services," "Simulated Skylights," "Supine Workstations," "Dual Channel Headsets" and "Timers."

Disability-Inclusive Workforce Development

As part of its collaboration with the Western Governors' Association, the State Exchange on Employment and Disability participated in WGA's 2021 Winter Meeting to educate governors and staff members on the importance of disability-inclusive policymaking and share resources that promote an equitable economic recovery. During the meeting, the Governors voted to adopt a disability-inclusive workforce development policy resolution that recognizes economic equity as a continued issue across states. It acknowledges that workplaces that welcome the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are critical to building an inclusive and robust economy.
