How We Showed Up for America’s Workers in 2021

U.S. Department of Labor December 30, 2021 2021 was a year like no other. Yet despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, the Department of Labor and the Biden-Harris administration showed up for America's workers, job seekers and retirees at critical moments in their lives. Here are a few of the ways we supported workers in 2021: We invested in the nation's care economy We stood with care workers to make sure they got the wages they deserved and stayed safe on the job. We protected families and children from child and forced labor. And we prioritized mental health support and parity in access to mental health and addiction benefits. We worked to build a modern, safe and inclusive workforce Essential workers got the pay and protections they earned, more workers avoided heat-related hazards, federal contract workers got a raise, and a diverse group of workers started apprenticeships. We supported workers at transition periods in their lives Workers got critical unemployment benefits, retirement savings were restored and protected, families kept their health insurance through a COBRA subsidy, and veterans and their spouses found and succeeded in new jobs.
