Sports: What to read and watch

Klay Thompson finally found love. Plus Game 6 of the National League Championship Series.

What to Read This Weekend

Chris Morris

Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, encourages his players to have outside interests, Scott Cacciola writes.

Draymond Green dabbles with broadcasting.

And Klay Thompson? Well, he pilots a high-end watercraft with supercharged twin engines and an enclosed cabin.

"You can't have a bad day when you're on the boat," Thompson said.

What to Watch This Weekend

Chris Taylor kept the Los Angeles Dodgers alive in the N.L.C.S. by blasting three home runs on Thursday.Meg Oliphant for The New York Times

All times are Eastern.

Baseball

The Braves take another shot at eliminating the Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. If they don't, it will come down to one game. (Game 6, 5:08 p.m. Saturday, TBS; Game 7 if necessary, 7:38 p.m. Sunday, TBS.)

Football

The Cardinals are the last undefeated N.F.L. team, and it's very unlikely that they will lose that distinction at home this week against the Texans. The line is an eye-opening 17 points (4:25 p.m. Sunday, CBS). For a closer game, there's Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs at the 4-2 Titans, who have the league's top rusher, Derrick Henry (1 p.m. Sunday, CBS).

Soccer

El Clásico is back, this time in Barcelona's home stadium, Camp Nou. Both teams are in down cycles, by their own standards, with Real Madrid going into the weekend in second place and Barcelona in — huh? — seventh. If anything, that pumps up the always-present hype for the game, with "Crisis" headlines sure to follow the loser (10:15 a.m. Sunday, ESPN+).

Gymnastics

The Olympics are over, but many top gymnasts are competing in the next biggest event, the world championships in Kitakyushu, Japan. Watching live will require an early rise or a late night for those in the U.S. (live event finals, 3:25 a.m. Sunday, Olympic Channel; taped coverage, 1:30 p.m. Sunday, NBC).

Auto Racing

The globe-trotting Formula One circuit has been to Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Hungary and Turkey this year. Now it comes to the U.S. for the first time in two years with the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. With six races to go, the battle between Max Verstappen and the six-time champion Lewis Hamilton remains close, with 6 points separating them (3 p.m. Sunday, ABC).
