Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training
, Multiple locations
Announcement #: 21-CRM-DET-060
Application Deadline: November 3, 2021
The counterproliferation-focused Intermittent Legal Advisor (ILA) will work to counter the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s proliferation of conventional and unconventional weapons through developing the capacity of regional partners to effectively investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate these crimes. There will also be an emphasis on combating the financing of weapons proliferation. The project will focus on the East and Southeast Asia region, which includes Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Singapore is a priority partner given the country's increasing status as a global financial hub, transit and transshipment point, previous exploitation by DPRK proliferators and its limited experience in successfully prosecuting export control violations involving non-listed items. Bilateral trainings will be provided to Malaysia and Philippines. This position may also engage South Asian states including India and Bangladesh, where appropriate. In addition, the project would work to build the capacity of countries in Asia to prevent the transfer of sensitive technology to malign states in East Asia, in particular, the People's Republic of China.
