The following GAIN reports were released on October 1, 2021.

_______

Australia: Fresh Deciduous Fruit Annual

Australia's table grape production is expected to increase to 210,000 MT in marketing year (MY) 2021/22, from an estimated 200,000 metric tons (MT) in MY 2020/21. Despite expanded vine plantings in recent years now coming into fruiting, production has remained relatively flat since MY 2019/20. Reduced labor availability caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has not only impacted production but also reduced the volume of export-quality table grapes and subsequently increased the supply of table grapes on the domestic market. The shortage of shipping container availability and higher transportation costs (also largely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic) contributed to lower exports in MY 2020/21 (120,500 MT) and are expected to constrain exports in MY 2021/22 (forecast at 130,000 MT). These volumes are both down significantly from the export record of 152,500 MT in MY 2019/20.

Caribbean Basin: Food Service - Hotel Restaurant Institutional

Eager to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind it, the Caribbean is doing all it can to attract visitors and kick-start its tourism sector in 2021. Despite new COVID variants and vaccination challenges slowing the recovery, tourism is beginning to rebound and thus the region's Hotel Restaurant and Institutional (HRI) foodservice sector is beginning to see increased activity as well. Consequently, U.S. exports of consumer-oriented agricultural products to the Caribbean are also beginning to trend upward.

Colombia: Colombia Decreases its Ethanol Fuel Blend Again

On September 9, the Colombian government released a new resolution to decrease its ethanol blend level to four percent (E4), effective September 11. Incremental increases are scheduled in the following 90 days, culminating with E10 by January 2022. This new measure attributes the change to an increase in fuel demand due to economic recovery, a local ethanol supply shortage because of heavy rains in the sugarcane producing region, and the closure of some ethanol plants for maintenance. In March 2021, Colombia temporarily decreased its E10 mandate to E4, with plans to return it to E10 by September 2021. Earlier this summer, Colombia increased its blend mandate to E7 and E8.

Jamaica: Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards Country Report

This report outlines the requirements for exporting food and agricultural products to Jamaica in 2021.

Japan: MHLW Publishes Considerations for Genome Edited Fish

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW) released precautional notes explaining its food safety regulatory vision for fish products developed using genome editing technology. The notes include conditions for the notification of genome edited fish products to MHLW.

Pakistan: Sugar Semi-annual

Driven by more area and better yields, centrifugal sugar production in 2021/22 is forecast at 6.7 million tons, up 11 percent over the current year's revised estimate. Sugar consumption will continue to grow modestly and is projected at 5.9 million tons, three percent higher than the current year's estimate. The increase in sugar production is expected to drive stocks to 2.8 million tons. Despite sufficient domestic sugar supplies, prices continue to rise.

Spain: Cotton and Products - Update

Irrigation water limitations in the Guadalquivir basin have resulted in lower area planted to cotton for MY2021/22. Additionally, the lower volumes allocated for irrigation purposes have pushed yields down, despite the good phytosanitary under which the cotton plants developed.

Thailand: Rice Price - Weekly

Export prices of white and parboiled rice increased one percent due to new inquiries from foreign buyers, particularly from African markets.

Tunisia: Exporter Guide

Approximately 90 percent of U.S. agricultural exports to Tunisia are bulk grains and oilseeds. Best prospects for U.S. consumer-oriented product exports to Tunisia include tree nuts, live animals, pulses, cookies and crackers, dairy products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, condiments and sauces, palm oil, corn, and cotton

Vietnam: Rice Trade - Monthly
