Call for Proposals for Grant Funding for
Project Preparation Activities

The U.S.Trade Development Agency (USTDA) call for proposals – under their Climate-Smart Infrastructure Projects includes "Energy Efficiency and demand-side management" and "Electrification and other solutions to reduce emissions in industrial applications" which are relevant areas for industrial controls / automation companies. USTDA funds feasibility studies, technical assistance and pilot projects that integrate the innovation and expertise of American companies. If your company is working on an industrial efficiency project in a USTDA-eligible emerging market with a partner that can act as an overseas project sponsor, then this may be of interest to review.  Deadline August 31, 2021,12:00pm (Eastern.)

Attention exporters to the European Union: The EU has proposed new regulations for machinery to address emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. The proposal draws links between the new EU AI regulation and the Machinery Directive and has the potential to impact U.S. companies exporting to the EU. If your company is impacted by the proposal, you can submit comments to the European Commission until August 16, 2021. Here is some background on the proposal and shows how to make comments to the Commission. Contact Amanda.Lawrence@trade.gov and Jaron.Bass@trade.gov with any questions or comments on the proposal.

Advanced Manufacturing Coffee with India Highlights

India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and the growth trajectory is complemented by the manufacturing segment, which accounted for 17.4 percent of India's GDP in 2019-2020 (pre-pandemic). The Government of India's National Manufacturing Policy has an objective to increase the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25 percent by 2025.  The gap in demand and supply has spurred the requirement for increased capabilities in this sector, including promotion of advanced manufacturing practices.  Although fragmented, the Indian manufacturing industry is gradually moving towards higher end, sophisticated machinery driven by the growing demand in end-user segments like automobiles; aerospace and defense; industrial automation; capital goods and consumer durables. The Indian manufacturing sector is expected to offer growing opportunities for U.S. exporters that supply innovative technologies in the advanced manufacturing segment, including 3D printing, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics and IoT.

Featured Advanced Manufacturing Market

Australia AM Market:

Australia's total Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing market is estimated at USD70 million and demand is gradually shifting from the hobbyist usage to a low base within the commercial and industrial market. In the manufacturing sector, Australia is not known as an early adopter of technology; however, once the technology has gained traction, they become a rapid adopter.  Therefore, the next five years are likely to see an increasing demand for professional and industrial-grade 3D printing solutions.

Australian businesses are primarily using 3D printing for prototyping and concept modeling with some limited level use in the manufacture of the production of parts. In the industrial and commercial applications, 3D printing is still primarily being outsourced. Sectors that already represent existing markets for 3D printing solutions include: food and beverages, medical and dental, defense (including aerospace), space, automotive (aftermarket sector), and architectural engineering.

Machine tool distributors are starting to add 3D printing solutions to their product lines but most existing 3D printing equipment suppliers do not stock different product lines. There are only a relatively small number of distributors and it is typical for one distributor to be a foreign company's official or exclusive representative and in turn sell directly to resellers and end-users.
