BREAKING: Two Republicans advance to runoff in race for U.S. House seat in Texas, locking out Democrats, NBC News projects

Two Republicans will face each other in a runoff election in a Texas congressional district in the Dallas-Fort Worth area: GOP activist Susan Wright, seeking to fill the seat of her late husband, who died after contracting Covid-19 earlier this year, and state Rep. Jake Ellzey. Neither exceeded the 50 percent threshold in Saturday's primary, which included 23 candidates.

The result is a disappointment for Democrats, who were locked out of the runoff. Texas' 6th district has trended to the left in presidential elections in recent years.
