Many schools moving online have looked to one obscure company. Parents are furious.

For many parents and students, the pandemic has been a chance to get their first up-close look at the burgeoning corner of the tech industry known as ed tech, and many don't like what they see.

Edgenuity, a company that sells an online curriculum for grades K-12 and was previously known in large part for "credit recovery," has been the target of particular ire. As school districts have expanded its use in the remote classroom, parents and students who say its software is inadequate have responded with picketing, anger-filled school board meetings and local freedom-of-information requests.
