President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, has spent the months before the election laying the groundwork for an elevated role in a potential second term.More than two dozen current and former administration officials, lawmakers and diplomats told NBC News that O'Brien's 13 months in the role have had one overarching theme: his concern about his future and his standing with Trump.
