Many historically Black colleges and universities have always had to do more with less, experts say, but the coronavirus has highlighted funding and resource inequities, forcing many to grapple with how to educate students who have compounding risk factors at home and on campus. While spotlighting historic funding woes, the pandemic and the country's racial reckoning following the death of George Floyd have caused an outpouring of philanthropy, giving HBCUs a chance to exert their power and significantly change their place in higher education. |
