It has been said that "domestic violence is homicide on the installment plan." This webinar will focus on proven techniques to ensure a better investigation and the prosecution of misdemeanor and felony level domestic violence crimes in federal court. This U.S. Department of Justice sponsored webinar will be held on August 17, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST. The training content will be delivered online via Cisco WebEx (WebEx). Presenters for this webinar are Detective Mike Agnew, Fresno PD (ret.) and Leslie A. Hagen, National Indian Country Training Coordinator, U.S. Department of Justice.
This training is for police, prosecutors and advocates responding to domestic violence in tribal communities. Topics to be covered include the following: the nature and prevalence of domestic violence; charging options in federal and tribal court; trauma informed interviewing; determining the predominant aggressor; the effective use of body worn cameras; documenting excited utterances; photographic documentation of violence; and report writing. In short, viewers will learn how to build an evidence based case that may withstand prosecution challenges like victim recantation. The ultimate goal is less homicides, less violence, justice for victims and safer communities.

- Fill out the pre-registration survey.
- Click the "Register" button.
- Save the automated WebEx calendar appointment following your registration.
Additional WebEx Instructions:
You should be able to join the event from the meeting link in your calendar invite by selecting "Join Event"/"Join Meeting." Please be aware that WebEx may prompt you to install a Cisco WebEx desktop app or add-on. If you are not permitted/chose not to install, there are some other options for joining the meeting:
- You may select "run a temporary application." You may be automatically prompted to do so or there may be a "go here" link if you have trouble joining ("go here" may appear for those using Internet Explorer). Click on "run" to start the temporary application. You may have to try this a couple times…it may take a minute or so to run and open the meeting using the temporary application. Please note that other browsers may ask you to save (vs. run) the temporary application.
- You may try opening the webinar in Google Chrome. Some users have reported better results with Chrome.
- You may try joining the webinar from your Government phone or iPad.
- You may forward the calendar invite to your personal email and open the meeting on your personal computer/device (ensure you do not change your government email address, which may be displayed when entering the meeting). Again, you will likely be prompted to install a Cisco Webex app/add-on or run a temporary application.
- As a last resort, you may call in on your phone for audio only. The WebEx audio only phone number is 1-415-527-5035 and the Access Code is 199 939 7256. This is the primary number you should dial. If there are problems, an alternate dial-in number is 929-251-9612.
We recommend you test your access to the WebEx meeting early to avoid any delays at the time of the webinar.
