China: Update to the Export Process for US Beef and Beef Products
In accordance with the U.S.-China Economic and Trade Agreement (ETA), China has implemented a number of changes to the scope and process of exporting U.S. beef and beef products to China. Key changes include an expanded scope of products, removal of the 30-month age limit for cattle, new Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) standards, and the use of the Public Health Information System (PHIS) for transmitting export documents. This report is intended to be a general guide for U.S. exporters and is intended to complement the regulatory requirements found in the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) Export Library. Ecuador: Grain and Feed Annual Uncertainty of government corn policies and price support mechanisms contributed to decreased production with farmers retiring or shifting to more profitable crops. Key market drivers include the gradually improving economic climate in Greece; consumers' higher spending on packaged food in 2019; an increasing interest in healthy and functional foods; an aging population; and a trend to follow the Mediterranean diet - mostly in order to reduce expenses and receive the best price possible. The major imported ingredients for processing are meat products, milk and dairy products, cereal-based products, confectionary, and beverages and alcohols. Japan: Japan Health Foods Market Overview In 2018, Japan's health-related food market was the third largest in the world with an estimated value of $13.2 billion, up two percent from the previous year. Following the introduction of the Foods with Function Claims (FFC) labeling category by Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) in 2015, the volume of companies and products that are marketing health food products has risen substantially. Opportunities exist for U.S. health foods manufacturers and ingredients suppliers. Specialty food buyers from sporting goods food manufacturers, gyms, sporting goods retailers, drug stores, etc., look for new products at large trade shows or specially targeted trade showcases. Japan: MAFF JFY2020 Budget Focuses on Reinforcement of Agricultural Production Resources and Infrastructure The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) received 2.41 trillion yen (roughly US$22.1 billion) for its Japanese Fiscal Year (JFY) 2020 budget, a 0.8 percent decrease from last year. MAFF's JFY2020 budget focuses on strengthening agricultural production resources and infrastructure to address labor shortages and improve export capabilities. The JFY2020 budget for animal biosecurity increased 260 percent over JFY2019 levels to combat and prevent the spread of virulent infectious diseases. Japan Provides COVID-19 Emergency Funding to Producers and Food Manufacturers The Government of Japan released two tranches of emergency funding for COVID-19 countermeasures, 15.3 billion yen (US$140 million) on February 13 and 430.8 billion yen (US$3.9 billion) on March 10. The second tranche of funding provides support to producers and food manufacturers affected by COVID-19 related school closures. Morocco: Food Processing Ingredients

Morocco: Morocco Removes Import Duties on Durum and Pulses On March 27, 2020, the government of Morocco suspended customs duties on durum wheat, lentils, chickpeas, beans and dry common beans. The decision aims to provide regular and affordable supplies of durum and legumes during Morocco's ongoing drought and also in preparation for the month of Ramadan. Post forecasts that 2020 chicken meat production will grow by 1.5 percent over 2019. Despite more moderate growth, Poland will remain the European Union's (EU) largest poultry meat producer. Although growing domestic consumption and international demand will drive Polish poultry meat production in 2020, a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak in late December 2019 will moderate that growth. Until March 12, 2020, there were 30 confirmed HPAI outbreaks in domestic flocks. Post estimates 2020 exports of chicken meat will decline by seven percent from 2019, mainly due to lower exports outside of the EU. In 2019, over 70 percent of exported chicken meat was shipped to other EU markets.
