Hmmmm

Caption this photo....

(This elk does NOT have antlers growing out of its ears, but is fun to think it does). If you look closely at the top of his head, you can see the base of the pedicle (the platform from which the antler grows!). This elk likely shed both of its antlers within the past few days. Soon a new pair of antlers will begin to emerge from its pedicle. Photographed on the National Elk Refuge.
