Six states are holding Democratic primaries and caucuses today, and the first wave of polls are beginning to close right now. Follow live results here. |
Happy not-quite-Super Tuesday. |
A total of 352 delegates in six states are up for grabs in today’s Democratic presidential primaries and caucuses. While that’s less than a third of the Super Tuesday stakes, these contests could also have a big impact on the race. |
The state I’ll be watching most closely is Michigan, where Senator Bernie Sanders resurrected his campaign four years ago with a surprise victory over Hillary Clinton. I spent the weekend following him around the state and saw some signs that he was struggling to energize black voters, who make up a significant portion of the Democratic electorate. |
A Joe Biden blowout in Michigan would raise the likelihood that he could quickly wrap up the nomination, while a Sanders win could reinvigorate his candidacy. |
Also worth watching is Washington State, which might just be our first coronavirus election. The outbreak there may not affect the voting, since the state switched entirely to mail-in ballots. But voters are being encouraged to seal their envelopes with water — not their saliva! |
