This position offers a unique opportunity for a demonstrated leader with a proven track record of working with highly successful teams, who enjoys and excels at problem solving, is an excellent writer and editor, and a skilled decision maker.  The Deputy Director will work with and advise personnel throughout DOJ on policy matters related to hiring attorneys and law student interns. 

A good match for this position is someone who is an experienced relationship builder and thrives in an environment that puts a premium on consensus building.  The Deputy Director role requires someone who is thoughtful, diplomatic, customer service oriented, level headed and cool under pressure, detail oriented, flexible, and who knows when to work collaboratively or independently. 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and supervising a team of attorneys and human resources professionals
  • Serving as the first line reviewer for attorney disciplinary matters and issuances related to claims of FBI Whistleblower reprisal and other personnel-related legal issues
  • Providing guidance on attorney and law clerk suitability determinations
  • Advising and working in partnership with representatives at all levels of Department components and senior leadership
  • Evaluating, developing and implementing policies to ensure compliance with statutes and regulations
  • Drafting policy and preparing reports and memoranda to the Director of OARM and senior Department leaders
  • Handling various administrative functions associated with a small office
