The Gorilla's Weekly State of the Stock Market- January 25, 2020

January 25, 2020 While nervous trading was the name of the game throughout the holiday-shortened week due to the fears of a global epidemic, U.S. stocks held up very well until Friday. Oil and travel-related stocks took the biggest hit, and the price of the crucial commodity hit its lowest level since early-November. The Trump administration's plan to develop the second round of tax cuts, targeting the middle class, in the coming three months, boosted consumer-related stocks. The European Central Bank's (ECB) announcement regarding its first strategy review in almost two decades also helped equities globally, especially since we are now less than one week away from the Fed's next monetary meeting. CLICK HERE to continue. --GORILLATRADES PORTFOLIO UPDATE-- The GorillaTrades portfolio had its first negative day in a very long time on Friday. However, it was not so bad that a single GorillaPick was weak enough to stop out. In fact, a vast majority of the GorillaPicks that fell, lost just 1%-2% or less, and only two dropped more than 2%-3%; New Oriental Education (EDU) and Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) fell 3.4% and 4.2%, respectively. Many GorillaPicks bucked the market's overall trend by rising on Friday, but none in a significant way. Thus, an incredible 87 of the 97 confirmed GorillaPicks in the GorillaTrades portfolio now hold unrealized gains, including nearly half (49) with double-digit gains. This number is deceiving because five of the ten that are lower are down by just a fraction of 1%. Seven different GorillaPicks hold 20%-30% unrealized gains each. Five more hold 34%-40% gains.
