The Senate began debate Friday on whether to call witnesses in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial. Democrats appear unlikely to get the 51 votes they need to hear testimony from additional witnesses after Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, a key Republican swing vote, announced Thursday night that he would not support the move. If the Senate votes not to call witnesses, the trial will move to a final vote on whether to acquit or convict Trump, possibly as late as Wednesday.
